Teeth Whitening

Everybody desires white teeth. Thanks to great advances in the dental field, state of the art procedures can make those dull yellow looking teeth sparkling white! The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry took a survey on what people disliked most about their smile and what could be done to improve them. The most common answer was the color of their teeth and to make them whiter.

There are many reasons why teeth change their color from white to not so white or yellow:

  • Age – As we age the protective shell of your teeth, the enamel starts to thin and the softer area behind the enamel, dentin shows through and appears yellowish.
  • Tobacco use – Nicotine and tar stain your teeth
  • Medications – The result of some medications can be discoloration of your teeth (Anti-psychotics, high blood pressure medication, antihistamines to name a few)
  • Food and Drink – many foods and drinks are loaded with chromogens that give the color to what you eat or drink, also attacks the enamel of your teeth.

Everyone Desires Whiter Teeth!

At Kierland Dental Center, we provide three teeth whitening options for our patients:

Whitening at home:

Custom trays will be made from models taken of your teeth. The tray is then used in conjunction with a mild whitening gel over a several week period. Kierland Dental Center provides for our patients “Whitening for Life”. Patients will be given a tube of the take home whitening gel at each of their routine dental check-ups.

In-Office Whitening with Venus

Venus White teeth whitening products contain peroxide which releases oxygen molecules to break up the chains of protein that comprise tooth stains. As a result, light travels through the dispersed protein links and makes the teeth look whiter.

Carbamide and hydrogen peroxide are oxidizing agents commonly encountered in cosmetic dentistry, where they are used to bleach teeth. The bleaching obtained is proportional to the length of time the peroxide is applied to the tooth and the concentration used.

Dental Veneers/New Restorations

Dr. Thompson first provides the patient with a range of tooth shades to choose from in order to determine the color they desire. Next, a thin cover of long-lasting porcelain is placed over the teeth. This option guarantees the patient the outcome they desire.

Testimonial:

“I recently had my teeth whitened with the new GLO system at Dr. Thompson’s office. This was the first time I have not experienced sensitivity to a whitening treatment. The in-office treatment was quick and painless and did whiten my teeth considerably. I was also given a take home kit to continue whitening and with this I experienced very minimal sensitivity on my bottom teeth only, which disappeared totally within 12 hours.

After years of trying many different types of whitening systems both in office and over the counter products and always experiencing severe sensitivity that lasted for several days, I have finally found relief with the “GLO” procedure.”
