Replacement of Missing Teeth
Dental Implants are a “root” device that is typically made from titanium. The implant is a used to support different types of dental restorations depending on the case. It may support a single crown, implant supported bridge, or denture.
Dental bridge is constructed by preparing the teeth adjacent to your missing tooth so that an abutment crown can be placed over those teeth and securely anchor the false crown between them. The bridge is constructed of either porcelain fused to a semi-precious metal, full Zirconium (non-metal based), or all porcelain (ceramic) materials. Which type of material will be discussed thoroughly with the patient and Dr. Thompson to ensure the best restoration is placed for that individual. Bridges are a permanently fixed restoration- not removable.
A partial denture is a removable (RPD) is for patients that are missing multiple teeth. This is used for patients that have chosen not to have a fixed bridge or implant placed. It can also be used as a temporary replacement for missing teeth while other long term procedures are being planned or in progress.
Denture is a lab fabricated set of teeth and is custom made to fit over the gum tissue. Dentures are removable and need to taken out daily for proper cleaning of gum tissue and the denture. Patients who have dentures are still urged to visit Dr. Thompson at least once per year for a comprehensive exam of their gum tissue.
