Contributors to Sleep Apnea

Anybody can suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea. However, certain risk factors have been associated with increasing one’s chance of OSA. You have a higher risk for Obstructive Sleep

Apnea if you are:

  • Male
  • Overweight
  • Over the age of 40
  • Post menopausal women
  • Black, Hispanic, or Pacific Islander
  • A smoker
  • Have a family history of sleep apnea

In addition, certain physical attributes can increase one’s risk of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, such as having a thick neck, deviated septum, receding chin or enlarged tonsils. Allergies or other medical conditions that cause nasal congestion and blockage can also contribute to Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
